HERE'S THE TRUTH, NOT JUST ANOTHER HOW-TO.

This is your guide to life after beauty burnout.

Beauty Burnout is that feeling there is always something else you should do to improve how you look, and that chasing an "objective" standard of beauty at all costs is the "right" thing to do. The mainstream beauty industry thrives on this, keeping us stuck in a constant cycle of buy and try.

The MILO Multifunctional system is designed to break that cycle. It simplifies your routine and reduces the number of skin, scalp and hair products you need. With Everything Oil, Refreshing Tonic and Activating Powder, you can cut back on overconsumption and experience Beauty Freedom, without compromising effectiveness.

Fact or Fiction?

The mainstream beauty industry is full of disinformation. It repeatedly invents problems to “fix”, making you feel as if you are not enough, then sells you the solutions to those same problems. It is time to call out those long-held myths and face them with facts.

FICTION 1: YOU NEED TO STRIP, THEN REPLENISH.

We have been taught to see our natural oils as something to fear or feel disgusted by. If your skin feels dry and tight after cleansing, you may have been told that means it is clean and healthy.

FACT 1: Effective skin care does not require harsh stripping of the skin's natural oils.

Gentle cleansers can remove impurities without compromising the skin's barrier, while maintaining hydration and protecting against irritation.

FICTION 2: YOUR SKIN HAS A TYPE.

Oily, dry, combination. Once you decide which box you fit into, you are locked into buying products for that "type", scanning every product description for a matching skin type icon.

FACT 2: Your skin is a living, constantly fluctuating organism.

It is an outward reflection of your mental, emotional and physical well-being, with hormone cycles, diet, hydration, age and climate all playing major roles. The real and only "type" to aim for is Balanced. Once you reach it, the goal is to maintain it.

FICTION 3: NEWER MEANS BETTER.

New product. New formula. New packaging. You are encouraged to believe every “innovation” will fix your perceived skin problems. If it does not show immediate results, you move straight on to the next.

FACT 3: The mainstream beauty industry thrives on this cycle of newness, but consistency is key.

Dermatologists recommend patience, which means sticking to a routine for 4 to 6 weeks before you decide whether it works for you. If your body operates on a ~28 day hormone cycle, it is important to let a full cycle complete before you judge how your skin responds to a product. Hormonal fluctuations across the cycle can significantly affect your skin’s behaviour and needs.

FICTION 4: THERE IS A PRODUCT FOR EVERY “PROBLEM”.

Acne, dullness, dryness, loss of elasticity. The list grows, and so does your shopping basket. Products designed for single, specific purposes can look like easy answers. Anti-acne washes promise to clear all your acne. In reality, buying lots of single-use products is often unnecessary, especially when skin and hair concerns can have deeper causes.

FACT 4: A 12 step routine can feel like self-care, but the ingredients themselves are multifunctional.

With thoughtful and intentional formulation, they can be combined into more effective products. Instead of product stacking, you can ingredient stack, simplifying both your routine and your bathroom shelves. At the same time, making an effort to eat healthily, improve sleep and lower stress will also reduce the need for concern-specific products.

Buy less, do more

We’re debunking those myths and starting something new. Something that will help put an end to overconsumption. Introducing the MILO Trio, a simple yet dimensional three-product system. Here’s how it works:

  1. Each ingredient is multifunctional,

Meaning each product serves multiple purposes and can be applied to multiple areas vs. a single-ingredient product for a single purpose. Combining our products together means you can replace up to 18 products, opening up a whole new set of possibilities. Our system can effectively replace your skin, scalp, and hair products—simplifying your routine. After all, what’s good for your face is good for the rest of your body, so why treat them differently?
Example: Rosehip Face Oil has both nourishing and antioxidant properties that are great for moisturizing skin, scalp, and hair in the same way.

  2. We leverage the power of Ingredient Stacking

Combining ingredients based on each product’s multiple intended purposes.

Example: Our Everything Oil feeds and strengthens skin, hair, and scalp with the help of ingredients like Safflower and Camellia.

  3. Our system can effectively replace your skin, scalp, and hair products

Simplifying your routine. After all, what’s good for your face is good for the rest of your body, so why treat them differently?

Example: The Everything Oil effectively replaces Makeup Remover, Cleanser, Moisturizer, Face Oil, Body Oil, Scalp Oil, and Hair Oil.

  4. Combining our products together means you can replace up to 18 products

Opening up a whole new set of possibilities.

Example: When The Everything Oil’s moisturizing and strengthening properties combine with the Activating Powder’s antioxidant and invigorating properties, they create a nourishing mask that encourages cellular turnover.

The Six Fundamentals of Skin Health

Sometimes it feels as though we need a PhD to understand the products we use on our bodies. But there are only two concepts you need to know: Essentials and Boosters. Essentials are the building blocks to your skin’s health while Boosters are there to provide additional benefits that contribute to your skin’s overall health. We took the guesswork and multiple shopping trips away by including both in our three-product system. This is thanks to ingredient stacking thus, streamlining your routine.

ESSENTIALS

Antioxidants

The skin is composed of 3 main antioxidants; vitamin E, vitamin C, and ubiquinone. Antioxidants help prevent oxidative and UV damage to the skin, which can also help prevent skin cancer, photoaging and dermatologic conditions. As we age, our skin's antioxidant defenses tend to deteriorate, which leads to oxidative stress and intrinsic aging. It is important to use antioxidant protection to maintain skin health.

(Ghaffari et al., 2015; Kang et al., 2019)

Hydration

Hydration draws water into the skin. It keeps your skin plump and smooth, especially in the deeper layers. Products with humectants like hyaluronic acid attract water from the surface of your skin to the deeper layers. Your skin may appear dull and feel tight without proper hydration. Especially when exposed to drying products like alcohol-based cleansers. To prevent this, avoid products like alcohol-based cleansers and use products that actively pull water through the lipid bilayer.

(Kang et al., 2019)

Moisture

Moisture keeps water inside your skin. It's crucial for maintaining softness, elasticity, and a healthy skin appearance. The skin's lipid bilayer—a protective barrier made of ceramides, fatty acids, and cholesterol—acts like a seal, locking in moisture. It's important to reinforce that barrier by using products rich in oils otherwise your skin loses its ability to retain water, causing dryness and imbalance. Avoiding over-exfoliation and harsh cleansing can help with this too.

(Bolognia et al., 2012)

BOOSTERS

Anti-inflammatories

Anti-inflammatory agents play a role in enhancing skin barrier function and mitigating inflammatory responses. These agents not only contribute to barrier repair but also provide a soothing effect on irritated skin, thereby underscoring their importance in maintaining overall skin health.

(Chandan et al., 2021)

Cell Renewal

Cell renewal involves the continuous shedding of old, damaged cells and the generation of new ones. This process occurs in both the epidermis (the outermost layer of the skin) and the dermis (the layer beneath the epidermis). It’s a vital process in skin health and plays a key role in skin care, particularly in maintaining a healthy, smooth, and vibrant appearance.

(Kang et al., 2019)

Essential Nutrients

Essential nutrients like unsaturated fatty acids play a role in promoting skin health through topical application.
