Impact Policy & Mission Statement

Art is at the core of everything we do. That’s because we believe art is at the center of every movement that matters. Artists hold a mirror up to society and help us decide where we want to go. They inspire new directions and their movements transform into culture, which in our current world paradigm turn into commerce. 

For too long, their work has been lauded as extremely valuable while being grossly underpaid for the works they create. Most of the massive profit existing within secondary and tertiary markets, there are few opportunities for artists to make the same money their art makes. We’re a startup and we don’t have all the answers. 

As a starting point, we’re doing things a little differently. Rather than co-opt art for the purposes of marketing, we are dedicating 80% of our marketing budget to fund public media and arts initiatives and create opporunities for artists. We consider this especially important as public arts funding is constantly under attack, and most art funded through commercial means is designed to sell something through its construction. 

We’re taking a different appraoch and we believe it’s worth being transparent about it. We’re not trying to buy your attention with our marketing dollars. We respect you too much for that. Instead, we aim to build reciprocal relationships with our customers and community.

What that means to us is:

- We make excellent products that you actually need

- We spend 20% of our marketing budget on awareness because you have to find out about us somehow…

- You buy our products because you beleive in the Human Care Mission and continue to buy them because they nourish your body the way it deserves

- We use the other 80% of our marketing budget that comes from your purchases to fund things you can enjoy and that add value to your life—independent journalism, free art installations and experiences, community events centered around the arts

- In your loyalty we have the privilege of continuing to further the human care mission. 

- In addition to the majority of our marketing budget, we also allocate 1% of all MILO Cares contributions to MILO Creates.
