Steward Governance Structure

We operate on a model that’s relatively uncommon in North America. Steward Governance relies on two share classes—Governance Shares (Class A Shares) and Financial Shares (Class B shares). In doing this, we separate financial participation from the company’s decisionmaking. The mechanism that helps us keep our Human Care mission front and center.

The defining characteristic of Steward Governance is that there are 11 Class A shares issued. These shares comprise our Board. Some Board Members like our founders and investors hold both share classes.

To ensure 100% mission alignment, we pay an annual fee for a third party who holds the 11th Board seat as a tie-breaker. This means the mission can never be compromised by the independent financial interests of Board Members who hold both share classes.

We are a company designed to last forever—we are building deep infrastructure in the name of Human Care, and will over time transition to being partially community-owned. There will be more on this later. For now, just know that every purchase you make contributes to building that infrastructure.
